What are the best heroes for resisting magic with (other than :sauron:) that are also effective in close combat?

Just realised that most of my forces are vulnerable to magic! :o

Glorfindel..... I like the sound of that!

Balrog also cool, but very expensive points wise...

would Galadriel in either of her forms be effective?

I wouldn't say she's good in combat but fighty Galadriel hasn't anything special with her will.

Any wizard would do, so would a hero who is resistant to magic, after that heroes with 3 Will are the best you can get.

Do you have any specific list? Are you planning on facing magic heavy forces?

The problem now is that for 120 points, no Evil army of decent size would be better off NOT taking a Nazgul. Most Good stuff is next to powerless against them, too.

Try and create a screen in front of the hero out of your own troops. It normally works for me.

Yes, but then your Hero isn't out where he should be (ie, killing Orcs) and his points are basically wasted. Nazgul are some of the most potent units in the game.

???

That's not quite what I meant kinda like this

N-nazgul
O-orc
W-your warrior
H-your hero

OOON...OOOOO
........WWWH
...........WW

It's quite rare that you'll get a nazgul bang in the middle of their battle line, if so, just heroic combat into them.

Interesting, I've never seen that before. Usually my opponents put a Nazgul where he's most likely to Transfix my Heroes.

A well-timed heroic combat usually puts them in their place.

Spuds gives good advice.
To deal with Nazgul I usually take Saruman or Legolas because they have many other uses too, some of the best models in the game. Nazgul (esp. budget wraiths, which are some of the most common in my area) can only cast for so long anyway - heros with 3 Will can usually make it away unscathed.

Celeborn seems to have been forgotten here...

He gets a free points of will each turn so can easily counter spells and can even cast some of his own. He's a monster in close combat if you give him heavy armour and a shield aswel.

Ah, good point - I usually think of anyone with free Will a wizard, lol. I should've said "anyone with free will each turn should do fine"

I think that's only Galadriel that gets free will every turn, unless there's a new version of Celeborn which I haven't checked out.

Celeborn doesn't have a Ring of Power. As far as I remember no free Will. Galadriel (magic version only) and Elrond (I believe  ) have the free Will (or maybe Elrond was able to reroll something because of his Ring...never actually used him much as I wasn't a fan of Rivendell Elves).

Elrond doesn't have a free will per turn but he gets to re-roll fate points. Celeborn doesnt get free well per turn only the older version of him does which is in the RoTK rule book in that book he gets 1 will per turn and only has 1 attack. In the big blue book he has 3 attacks and doesnt have free will per turn.
