We haven't seen anything from Games Workshop's LotR range in a while, and their subsidiary company, Sabertooth Games, who made the LotR Tradeable Miniatures Game, no longer exists. And then, there's always Mithril Miniatures, who aren't widely available, yet have a release regularly. BUT, I was shocked to find that another company has acquired rights to producing LotR miniatures--WizKids. Yes, WizKids is now making a range of LotR miniatures based on the films, The Lord of the Rings HeroClix. For those with no experience with HeroClix, they are prepainted miniatures on bases with stats on them, coming also with stat cards and gameplay maps. They are usually a bit bigger than GW minis. The sculpts and paint jobs vary from standard to very poor. My experience with HeroClix is confined to a Master Chief/Arbiter HaloClix promotional set that I bought from Amazon specifically to re-paint. These figures were fairly decent, but the most recent Halo minis are absolutely terrible in comparison. The only image I've seen of the new LotR HeroClix range is a very small picture of an 8-figure starter set. With GW cutting way, way back on LotR, seemingly stalling until The Hobbit, and with the movies now far removed from general thought, I was extremely surprised to find that WizKids would make this range. Here are some links: http://wizkidsgames.com/lotr/ http://www.heroclixworld.com/hcw/Articles.aspx?ID=246A&P=3 If you look at what comes in the starter set, you'll notice a troll and Sauron, which, if the scale is not too off, might make nice substitutes for GW miniatures. But tbh, I'm not that interested. I am, however, interested in some of WizKid's older Halo minis, for re-painting, and maybe eventually actually trying the game. |

I've been getting back into heroclix recently and was shocked to see this too! As for the haloclix game, it is totally awesome but there are a few balancing issue and it is certainly best when playing with more than two people! |

Found a site with two preview images. The initial lineup of miniatures will include 21 characters from LotR. The official release is next month: http://heroclixhideout.blogspot.com/2011/09/lord-of-rings-heroclix-preview.html |

This to me sounds like LOTR Combat Hex, I have a few of those still. |

I gotta be honest, I'm not too interested in making a purchase myself, but I would really like to see how they compare to GW in terms of size, as well as quality. The preview pics I posted don't really demonstrate either. |

All heroclix minis stand about a head or so taller than a GW mini, the quality is dependent on how much you like pre-painted models, however the sculpts themselves are very nice imo. |

I kinda have an inclination of the standard scale, seeing that Master Chief is much taller than a Space Marine. I kinda want to see how the Saurons and the Mordor Trolls stack up though--it seems like they might be in better scale. Are you probably gonna get LotR Heroclix, SuicidalMarsbar? |

Well heres the thing, i recently bought a few heroclix off ebay to add to my rather small collection, i will probably get a few games out of these, and there are currently some gears of war heroclix out atm, so i will buy some of them, then the haloclix are bign re-made into heroclix mini's, so i may do the same with halo heroclix, even though i have a huge collection of haloclix and im kinda bummed that i have to buy the same minis all over again :| But yes, when there out i imiagine i will buy some lotr heroclix, mainly because then i will have marvel, DC, Gears of war, halo and lotr all battling it out in a single game, which means i could easily get all of my friends playing, because there is something for everyone and the idea of all these classic characters dueling it out on the tabletop is something that no-one can deny a game of! |

Wait...we are going off topic from specifically LotR Heroclix, but I am kinda confused about Haloclix. So, "Haloclix" does not equal "Halo Heroclix"? They aren't compatible? |

When halo 3 came out wizkids produced a line of "haloclix" mini's which were essentially heroclix but followed a different set of rules etc, now they are re-making the haloclix set into halo-heroclix so that everything is compatible, meaning that the haloclix mini's become null when compared to halo heroclix which are compatible with every other heroclix game, not just halo... |

Ah, so Haloclix had a slightly different set of rules than Heroclix, and WizKids' Halo range is being re-done so that it follows the general Heroclix rules? Just to make sure I've got it. |

Yup, every model is being remade into a heroclix compatible model. |
