For the last 3 years and a bit I've been on-and-off saying I should put up a thread with my drawings in it. To be honest, I used to draw far more than I do now, but some of the stuff I churn out (said the master of overstatement) is better than it was. Note the "some". I haven't much to post, given that I have even less scanned, but I've dug some old pictures out of my email account and also uploaded two pictures of a map I drew. I love maps. The mountains (and, to a lesser, but more visible, extent, trees) are based somewhat on Christopher Tolkien's outstanding work. To save your download limit (some of these pics are in the megabytes) I'll be kind and make them just urls. Enjoy. A map I made in Spain last week. I'm busy making out a history of these lands, because I do that with my maps. I understand why Tolkien did as much as he did - it's FUN! http://img862.imageshack.us/img862/8669/00111.png The same map, but Paint.net'd to add a parchment background and make the features more visible. http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9296/001111.png A nondescript city http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8315/cityw.png Star Trek pictures (approx. 1 year ago)- Starfleet attempt to take down a Borg cube http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/8708/borg.png Some time later, they try 3 http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1497/borg2.png My work isn't solely limited to drawings and sketches, of course, so if anyone wants to see some of my other stuff (mostly less impressive, to be honest) feel free to ask. |

Nice map! Have you created a background for the lands in the map before drawing it or is the map drawn first? A couple of sea monsters might look great on it. -- Pasi |

Fantastic map, I love it! Did you use the teabag effect to get it looking old? I remember I did that once. |

To be honest, I didn't make the background myself; I stole it off the internet, photoshopped (different program, actually, same effect) it over it, and made it look old. I don't like doing anything to my pictures aside from penciling them, in case I get later inspiration. But I'm glad you like what you've seen. |

Been meaning to post more stuff here for a while; I suppose now's as good as ever. If any of you happen to be on NationStates, you may have run into Maltropia at some point. That's me. For a historical roleplay we were doing, I drew a couple of pictures of, well, historical Maltropia. These include: A sort of caravel thing. http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6169/001ga.png The city of Corcaigh Nua, capital of Maltropia. (WARNING: HUUUUUGE!! 2000x2000 pixels! ) http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/5272/001ewe.png A map of Maltropia, c. 1601. This one's not as big, but still hefty. http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1961/001qyav.jpg The sorta-final draft of the above map, detailing my neighbours as well. This one's vaaaaaast. http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8649/0012ap.jpg |

Really nice work Ingold, nice to see you around the forum! I'm very much impressed with your city! where did you get your inspiration from? As for the sailing boat it looks fantastic, I want to try one myself now. I might throw up my own art thread since I'll be doing a lot of art work in the coming years for uni. Keep up the good work, look forward to see more stuff. |

Well, in my head it's always been a coastal city on a hill or group of hills, so the whole idea of a terraced city or whatever followed on naturally. It's sort of partly inspired by the city I live in, but other bits followed on as necessity reminded me a port city would need these - what kind of harbour has no docks, and how can you prepare for war without building watchtowers? I'm very happy with the result, regardless of how much I messed up perspective in it. Quote: As for the sailing boat it looks fantastic, I want to try one myself now. And yeah, it'd be great to see your art. |

Perhaps some more shading might help you out though. I'll try and get my stuff up soon anyway (I need to draw it first, lol) |
