Post subject: | A Medieval Castle |
I have been asked to build a terrain board for an exhibition game in May next year and have commenced work on it now (I'd never finish it in time if I started any later). It's a Weird War II game called "Jurassic Reich" and the premise is that the Allies have learned that the Nazis have managed to clone dinosaurs and are building up a force of prehistoric armoured beasts. It's sort of Dirty Dozen meets Jurassic Park, with some Indiana Jones thrown in for good measure. The table is to be a dark and brooding castle overlooking a snow-covered valley and village. So, I have designed a castle based on one in Transylvania and have begun building it. There are several more images on my blog, under the heading "Jurassic Reich": http://spodding.tabletopwargaming.com/?cat=10 |

For you, the paleontology is over, Herr Doctor Jones.... Are we going to see Vlad the Iguanodon? |

How can you do so much perfect work in such a small period of time?! You always amaze me Alan! I already see this one in the right coat of paints, and still I know you will make it look even better then I can imagine. Looking forward to see the entire castle!! |

Yep - polyfilla, smeared on about 1mm thick and then pressed with a kitchen scourer to give a rough texture. Once that dries (about 6 or more hours), I start carving in the masonry joints. And hi Temet, long time no see! |

Ok, these aren't exactly shots of the castle, but they are a part of the game table. A sentry box, as seen across all of Germany and the Occupied Territories. |

The sentry box is amazingly accurate! Also, I find the tracks give a little personality to the little piece, which is always good The only thing I find a tad wrong is the gate... I don't know why, but it seems a bit too simple. Maybe add a little crank or something to be able to open it? |

Well, you're quite right RoG - the boom gate itself is not quite finished. It needs red and black stripes on it, a little 'Halt' sign, and a counterbalance - a heavy weight at one end to make it easy to lift and lower the boom gate. I've updated my blog too with some photos of other related pieces: http://spodding.tabletopwargaming.com/ |

Here's an update: These are shots of the guard barracks for the German troops. It's almost finished and I'll post more shots when I have completed it. The roof is removable so you can place troops inside. |
