Post subject: | My Celt army for WoTR |
Being the normal wargame meglomanic my nice little LOTR skirmish force grew a little and because of the recent WoTR release is still going! I have another 30 warriors to paint to bring the army up to 2000 pts for WoTR and then I might stop to let my Romans catch up. There is a mix of manufacturers to complement the Warlords models due mainly to unavailability at the time. So... The army deployed ready to battle. Berserkers and Champion. Cavalry, I need to buy some more hounds and make put a couple on a cavalry base. Chariots. Druids and various slingers in the foreground. My Noble contingent. And last of all be 6 Company strong warband. with another 4 undercoated. 1st Corp archers in the foreground - unfortunately by painting and need outpaced WG releases. |

You never cease to amaze me Dave. These look stunning (as usual) all arrayed in movement trays like that. I'd love to see your entire collection of miniatures from all games displayed on a single table (it'd be a huge table). |

Stunning! I'm painting a celtic 15mm army, but maybe I'll buy some 28mm to paint. |

Thanks guy's - it was a busy week LOL Alan - don't think there is a house big enough to have a table to accomodate all me armies Bilbo - Romans are next on the list to recruit from SBG to WoTR levels, currently have in companies: 5x Numidian Horse, 5x Auxiliary cavalry, 2x Aux archers, 3x Aux spearmen, 4x Legionaries, 3x Balearic Slingers, 1x Scorpion and an elephant. Mind you thats 1670 pts. |

Ranger of Gondor wrote: Wait.... WotR isn't only for LotR? Definately not, like SBG, WoTR is easily convertable to any other period where armies manouvre in tight formations - might go onto English Civil War next (thanks to Warlords plastics) but allow for mixed formations. Napolionic would be awesome using these rules, but no way am I going to even attempt to paint that number of models in the detail required for their uniforms - the new plastic models are stunning though.

Celts... maybe you could cunningly call them Gauls and then you will have access to some unique magic powers and heroes (Asterix, Obelix, getafix, Chief Vitalstatistix, Dogmatix....) It is great to see someone thinking beyond the boundaries of one system/milieu and exploiting the potential of the gaming system in other settings. And the minis look magnificent. Though I really look forward to seeing Romans! |

Great looking force there hithero! Nice idea to use the WOTR rules for other games. I'm looking forward to seeing those Romans! Whoah! That is impressive. And a bit crazy....
Imagine painting all those tiny tinkles
Maybe I should re-base my Foundry Vikings to use WotR rules rather than WAB. |

Dave, I’m sooo sorry I missed this thread somehow. But now that I’ve seen the glory, I must know which models are which manufacturers. I take it you really like the Warlords plastics, how many poses can you get out of a box? What are you going to do with the hounds? Base them along side running warriors? I can’t wait to see your Romans. How will you do Caser’s mercenary German calvary? Again, great stuff Dave. |

The models are mainly Warlord with some Black Tree and 1st Corp mixed in and I've just completed a box of Wargames Factory Celts. You get 30 models to a box of warlord, including command and 6 in armour. In theory you can get unlimited number of varients, but as you get the same torso's and legs in bare chested and shirted, the options are more limited, so it really ends up with different heads and weapons rather than genuine different poses. Its best to get the British box to get the extra heads and shields. I'll probably take some more Roman shots when I've completed my next box load but here's some I took earlier: |

O'h yes, hounds, these I'm just basing up on cavalry and infantry bases and adding them to a couple of formations. I pay 15pts for a base which allows an extra D6 hits if the formation wins a Fight. |

The Romans are looking Good Dave. 30 per box seem like a decent amount. Where are you getting the hounds from? |

The hounds you can get from Warlord Games as well, the couple in the pics are old Foundry ones I had laying around. |

Nicely done! Only thing you need now is 'Minimus', the Roman Halfling to lead them to vitory! |
