A while ago, I posted a thread about a castle I have plans to make. Well, circumstances have dictated that I put that project on hold while I get a few other things out of the way.

This is one of those things.

I am working on a 6' x 4' game board for a demonstration game to be held at a convention in Melbourne in 2008. The game is called Pax Limpopo and is a nutty little game based in Victorian times with some quaint and fabulously nutty miniatures (Dorth would love them) - including bomb-throwing anarchist nannies, Prussian clockwork helmet-shaped tanks, British unicycle-mounted lancers, and many many more.

Here is the plan for the table - it's Westminster Bridge and the Embankment in London (complete with Cleopatra's needle, a Stargate, and an Easter Island head):

And the first "under construction" shot to tease you.

(The Nanny is a 28mm figure and is shown to give an idea of the scale of this thing)

Those game-masters must be the luckiest people in the world by finding the most perfect guy to make them a gameboard!
Looks fantastic already in it's sketch, I know it will look "whatever word it could be to make you drool for lifetime" once finished!
Good luck, and keep us updated please!! ;-)

haha I love the sketch, especially the stargate. Does that have some actual significance in the game? Or was it just a random after thought?
As Buck said, its amazing already in its preconceptual stage...so I can't wait to see the final result of all your hard work!

The Stargate and the Egyptian obelisk are starting positions for two of the players (it's a 4 player scenario), and are a 'tip of the hat' to existing London landmarks - Cleopatra's Needle and the London Eye. As it happens, a friend of mine in the US is making the stargate model and (probably) is going to motorise it! (He's more obsessive than I am - if that's possible)

Ideally, I'd love to have Big Ben in the background, but that's just far too ambitious I'm afraid.

Nice to know that I am the Nutter Associate of choice around here... sackerfrasserwassin.....

That bridge section looks lovely - very elegant, refined.

An update (already!)

I have made some progress on a second bridge support and cut out the basic shape of the arch that will sit between them. There is the foundation of the third support at the rear, and this one will be integrated into the embankment.

They also have a US outlet in case you're concerned about postage costs from Australia

http://www.eurekaminusa.com/

I'll post some photos once I have a couple more of the Nannies painted.

The rules for Pax Limpopo are being playtested at the moment and are not available publicly yet.

Don't worry, I'll let everyone know when they are released.

Nice work so far Alan, although that 'Catamaran' looks a tad big

Is that a hotwire cutter or hair-straighteners in the background?

(Like Pippin, I have to look/ask... I always have to look/ask)

I'm pretty impressed a company is producing mini's for a game that they are still working out the play-test rules for. That's dedication. It does sound like a very fun game if your players have a good sense of humor.

DurinsBane, that "catamaran" I believe are the arches for the bridge tunnels. My guess from your post is that you might have known that and just poking fun at how the look in their partial phase but can never be sure with text...
