Im looking to restart playing SBG after a long break (probably havent played since 2007!)
I dont have any minis yet (sold all my original ones back in the day when WoTR came out), so am fairly open in terms of lists. Im thinking of going for 500pts (or could do 750 if not that many more models) and Uruk Hai.
Any list input would be welcome - ideally looking for something with the models that I like, that is fun to play and a bit forgiving:

* Uruk Hai Captain (heavy armour) - 2 berserkers & 10 warriors (sword & shield)
* Uruk Hai Captain (heavy armour) - Troll (spear), 2 berserkers, 6 warg riders (shield & bow), 2 warriors (sword and shield)

I have 10pts left

You should probably get a lurtz or some named hero with more might.

A shaman would be nice too what are you looking to get out of this Army?

I would suggest some named heroes like Vrasku and Mauhur. Mayby swap the troll and/or the wargriders for an extra hero and some more troops. Crossbows are always a good idea ;-)

I'd echo Brown Ring's question - what's your goal? To try to be a bit clearer:

There are some clear advantages to the force you've selected: It's not overly expensive, (under $200 USD) and as it's not a huge number of models, you can get it on the field fairly quickly. Also, if your objective is mostly to re-familiarize yourself with the game and have fun, you've got some items in there to help with that. Using cavalry well requires practice, and you've got the Warg Riders to help with that. You can get familiar with monsters and brutal power attacks by using the troll.

Is it a highly competitive list? There are better with Isengard. For a more competitive list I'd probably omit the troll, add crossbows, use more Berserkers and/or Ferals and swap out generic captains for a shaman and either Vrasku or Mauhur (only if you're going with mostly scouts). Add Saruman and Grima at 750 pts. But that being said, Uruk-Hai are generally durable and hold up well across a wide spectrum of opponents due to their F4, Str 4 and access to Defense 6, so if you and your friends aren't super competitive, your list will probably be just fine.

A good starting force for 495 points could be:

Uruk-hai Captain with Heavy armour and Shield
- 5 Uruk-hai with Pike
- 4 Uruk-hai with Shield
- 2 Uruk-hai Berserkers
- Isengard Troll with Spear

Uruk-hai Shaman with Armour
- 4 Uruk-hai with Pike
- 5 Uruk-hai with Shield
- Uruk-hai with Banner
- 2 Uruk-hai Berserkers

You'd need to buy
- Isengard Commanders
- 2 boxes Uruk-hai Warriors
- 1 blister Uruk-hai Berserkers
- Isengard Troll

Ebay is good place to look for isenguard stuff, and you often see warriors and berserkers going for reasonable prices if you are not bothered about 2nd hand.

This DC Hobbit League you tube video will help give you ideas of where to start with Isengard, even explaining general tactics with them. . As a first army they are a good choise.

The advice they give for buying, is for new only, however Isengard have been around for a very long time and do regularly come up on ebay for not much money.

I think the OP just wants to play a game guys, with Isengard ebay is your friend, as for your list it looks like you could have some fun with it.
Get yourself the fallen realms book, rulebook and just have fun! :)
