Hello everybody,
I am new at this forum, so this is my first question.

After watching GBHL and HTL (that is more or less the same like GBHL, but in german), I decided to start again playing the hobbit. Because I already have an evil army, I also want to have a good army. This army should:
- include Beorn or Radagast on sleigh
- be (more or less) competitive
- be cheap
- be a 400, 450 or 500 points army

I only own the Fellowship from the Mines of Moria box and Haldir with armour.

Please help me writing that list, thanks.

I hope that you can understand me, because English is not my first language. If not, just ask me.

How much are you able to spend or buy?

Right now you can only go all hero and I dont think thats often competitive depending on the scenario, level of opponent, and chemistry etc.

I would like stay under 100€ (80pounds). But I have a friend, who not playing the game anymore, so I could use some of his models/ buy them cheap. He owns these miniatures:
- 24 Warriors of Minas Tirith, a captain, a banner bearer, 24 rangers, Aragorn on horse
- 1x the last alliance box (the old one with 24 models), an elven captain, an elven banner bearer, an ent
- heroes of the west

I don't know; is this army competitive? I don't want to win tournaments but I want to have a chance to win games. Lordofthebrownring wrote that an all hero army is not very strong.

Depends on the hero army and how well you play with them...

get a faceroll of the white council with the current models "updated" + glorfindel´s and its crew and see how annoying they can be.

I also remembered the 3 hunter´s beaten an entire easterling force and its on youtube vid to see.

Of the 2 depends, beorn is nastier on bear but hard to control, radagast is more squishy although overall buffs are more passive bonus for the entire army and seems more ressourcefull on diferent aproax... he also dont have to see targets to get under spell influences like paralize an elven cloak model as he can see the entire field thx to his friendly birds that fly around the map.

If you want a 100€ bargain (would need some convertion though)

get Radagast on the eagle, 2 eagles and gwaihir or such, that would get around 500pts of very funny and very very interesting army.
The only good model riding a monstrous mount with a Nature´s wrath to back up.

We have to remember guys....he said hes just started playing again. Id say to buy some old dwarf warriors or wood elves on ebay, and make an army allied with Beorn. At 500 points, Beorn will be very good.

Forgot to read that...

Well he wants cheap and nice army? why not goblin town?

Its kinda monotunous in terms of game play

goblin king
12 gobos

grisna
12 gobos

scribe
12 gobos

moria shaman
12 gobos with gear

thats around 500pts I think of very nasty and annoying and most of all, very very easy option these days being so cheap

if he wants goodside cheap, go for radagast, same deal starter escape from goblin town comes with plastic radagast he will find very easy to obtain, then just add some random force he can find from the old lotr source range, like dwarves and elves as you said lordofthebrownring.

Thank you for your answer, but I already have a moria army. I also have the rulebook so I do not think that I need the escape from goblin town.

I like the idea an elven/ dwarf army allied with Beorn or an eagle army with radagast. But how exactly would such an army look like? Maybe something like this:

List 1:
Gimli, Glóins son 8 darwf-warriors, 4 x two-handed weapon, 4 x Shield 4 Khazâdguard - 206 Pts.
dwarf captain with Shield, 3 dwarf warriors, 2 x two-handed weapon , 1 x Shield - 92 Pts.

Beorn - 200 Pts.

Total: 495 Pts.

List 2:
Haldir, armour , elven-bow, 12 wood-elve warriors, 4 x elven-bow, 4 x elven-blade, 4 x spear- 180 Pts.

wood-elve captain with elven-bow, 6 wood-elve warriors, 2 x elven-bow, 2 x elven-blade, 2 x spear- 120 Pts.

Beorn - 200 Pts.

Total: 500 Pts.

List 3:
Radagast the Brown, Sleigh - 195 Pts.
Gwaihir - 125 Pts.
Great Eagle - 90 Pts.
Great Eagle - 90 Pts.

Total: 500

What do you think, which list is the best and how could I improve them?
I realy like list 3, how well could it perform if I will train to play with it? Could this list win one or two tournemt games?

Thank you for your answers.

The third list if you practice well can win games sure but besides skill it's gonna take luck.

I'll write you up a couple lists tonight when I get home but I'm on a bad mobile and away from my source books

Okay, thank you very much.
Relating to the source books: I do not have The Free People, but I have Khaza-dum and Fall of the Necromancer (and the profiles from the rule book from page 267 - 273); do I still need The Free People? Has anything changed and if yes, what?

Does nice mean good/competitive? Or just nice style?

Edit:
I have some more questions:
In general, who do think is more competitive Beorn or Radagast on sleigh?
For the fluff: Which army lists do make sence in cooperation with Beorn/Radagast?
What do you think about this list:
Warband 1 12/12
Captain of Minas Tirith
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Bow;
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear;
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield;
----
Warband 2 12/12
Captain of Minas Tirith
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Bow;
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield; Spear;
4 Warrior of Minas Tirith with Shield;
----
Beorn
Total: 500 Pts.

Hi,
I am also interestet in a very "natural" army with Beorn/Radagast on sleigh however, I do not know how the Grey Companie bow rule works. Am I allowed to take a Captain of Arnor with 12 rangers if I also take 4 Dunedains or could I leave out the Captain?
I also thought about a Wanderers in the Wild army like this:
Warband 1 10/12
Ghân-buri-Ghân
10 Woses Warrior
----
Warband 2 11/12
Treebeard
1 Ent
10 Woses Warrior
----
Total: 495 Pts.
Is this army too weak?

If you take 12 Rangers you need 3 Dunedain AND a captain.

Ok, so I think this is not worth it.

What do you think about this list; not enough units? Too much powergaming?
Warband 1: Bombur
Warband 2: Beorn with Bow
Warband 3:Tauriel;10 Mirkwood Ranger
Warband 4: Alfred the councillor

Total: 500 Pts.

List 1-
Beorn

Thorin Oakenshield with shield
6 warriors erebor with shield
6 with spear 2 with shield

Balin
4 warriors with spear and shield

This list is your basic tough guy list where youre very very hard to wound. Its basic, and you can just cut through the enemy easily, and you have spear support. Thorin is amazing, and Beorn will provide nice monster attacks.

List 2-
Beorn

Thranduil from the Desolation of Smaug profile
5 Mirkwood Rangers
Balin
6 warriors with shield
6 with spear and shield

This list you focus on Thranduil and his special magic rules to keep the enemy from swarming you. Also, it helps you to survive and choose the fights.

List 3-
Beorn with bow

Tauriel
11 Mirkwood Rangers

Balin

This list uses balin just for his special rule, and the rest of the game you just shoot and move till they finally close in and then you go to work with Tauriel and Beorn

Thank you for your lists. I think that I will choose either a Mirkwood or a Erebor army.

These are the two list:

List 1:

Warband 1: Bombur
Warband 2: Beorn
Warband 3: Legolas with armour;10 Mirkwood Ranger
Warband 4: Alfred the councillor

Total: 500 Pts.

This army could be very strong in some scenarios but in some other scenarios, it would not have enough models. The tactic is quit obvious: I am standing still an shot at my enemy. Meanwhile, Alfrid trys to give Beorn as much Might as possible. Bombur trys to give Alfrid his Will back.

List 2:

-Warband 1: Beorn
-Warband 2: Captain of Erebor with Shield; 6 Warrior of Erebor with Spear; Shield; 6 Warrior of Erebor with Shield;
-Warband 3: Balin; 4 Warrior of Erebor with Spear; Shield; 4 Warrior of Erebor w Shield

Total: 500 Pts.

I think that this army could work in every scenario. However, it might be boring to play with it because I would simply run into the combat and try to kill evrything.

List 2 is the same as LordofthBrownRing´s first list with a Captain of Erebor instead of Thorin. Should I take LordoftheBrownRing`s Erebor army, my Erebor army or my Mirkwood army?
