Post subject:  500 pt. Goblin Army

Does this look like a good goblin army list?

Durburz 60
Moria Captain (sh) 40
Moria Shaman 45

Goblin (sh) 12 60
Goblin (sp) 12 60
Goblin (bw) 12 60
Prowler (2-h) 8 56
Cave Troll (chain) 85
Bat swarm 35

Models- 49 Might- 5 Bows- 12

I think this could be a competive army with my bat swarm and cave troll taking out heroes and my goblins rushing.

Any suggestions?
Is the troll chain worth 5 points?
Is it a good idea to give prowlers bows?

Seems fine to me... With so max numbers it´s pretty solid list with even elites, a monster and heroes to lead this army.

(clap-clap) :yay:

It looks like a good list.

I never give bows to Prowlers, their main strength comes from trapping models so it's useful to get them stuck in.

The troll chain is good, as long as you remember to use it (I often don't).

i agree with prowlers not taking bows, as they are soooo good, and giving them bows is a waste as they can do so much more

the chain is highly debatable(it has good killing power, but you need to hit in the first place..), but i would skip it and use the 5 pts on my next idea

switch out the captain and bats for a generic ringwraith(on horse is good, but also makes him more vunerable to bows). so give it +1will, +1 might(cause might always needed), +1 fate (a bit of insurance incase they get a luck volley...)

now the ringwraith is something that i would highly recommend, but not essential. although at 500 pts you are likely so see some hard hitters (elven twins, stormcaller, gimli, ect...) so the ringwraith allows you to counter them, and he also has other uses (drain courage + the harbringers of evil rule for when they break.. ect)

I like Shadowswarm's suggestion. A little more magic would fit nicely in there. It might be a good idea to drop the shaman if you get the nazgul to get in 5 or so wargs to get some fast maneuvarability as the army seems very slow at the moment.

oooooooo, i like spuds4ever's suggestion, but i dont think you can do it, as moria cant ally with dwellers below (why the heck is that?? its sooooooooo thematic for them to ally....), so the wargs would have to come from the dol guldor list, but then you would need something like a warg chief or and orc capt to lead them. but the warg chief is too expensive and the orc capt is unthematic...

so unless you can get wargs from somewhere else (i dont think you can from what i remember), your better off sticking with durburz, shaman and nazgul (oh, and you could drop a goblin or 2 for some extra will if you feel like it)

Thematically an orc captain is fine - Tolkien described the occupants of moria as goblins, orcs and uruks (although it's debatable whether he used all three words to mean the same creatures).

The idea of Moria goblins as in the game is purely from the movies.

i guess you could also take a few orcs to make it more thematic as well

What about this list?

Durburz
Moria Cpt (sh)
Ringwraith (1 extra might, 2 extra will, 2 extra fate)

Goblin (sp) 14
Goblin (bow) 14
Prowler (sh) 14
Cave Troll (sp) 1

I gave prowlers sheilds and added a ringwraith

I don't think the prowlers would work as well as normal gobbos as your front-line troops. Maybe they would, but they'd definetely work better in small skirmishing parties as "specialists".

I think this is (almost) the final version:

Durburz
Moria Cpt (sh)
Ringwraith (1 extra might, 2 extra will, 2 extra fate)

Goblin (sp) 14
Goblin (bow) 14
Goblin (sh) 14
Prowler (2-h) 4
Cave Troll (sp) 1

50 units, 499 points, 14 bows, 5 might

Any other suggestions?

That looks very solid 8) I would swap out a gobbo with a spear for another prowler.

In the Khazad-dum source book or the big rulebook.

What have you got to counter cavalry ? And you haven't got any fast troops for flanking manouvres at all. And why do you give your troll a spear ?
I would say: drop some gobbos and your cap for some warg riders and a cap on foot (= a goblin cap with shield).

Having a horde army already counters cavalry and so does the troll. Having something to counter everything is very difficult at this point level and normally not nesessary.

@Shadowswarm, you could just drop the troll to get a warg chieftan. A troll dosen't have to be in every goblin army.
