Post subject:  Simple Lorien army for my brother

Howdy pard'ners,

My younger brother has just returned home from working in London, and is interested in getting back into SBG. He likes the wood elves, particularly the Galadrhim and is interested in building a small force. 250pts would be fine to start with I would think. Can you guys help me put together a simple army list for him? I have no idea when it comes to elves I'm afraid. Anything from the wood elf list will be fine. So far as I know the mainstay of a wood elf army would be Galadhrim warriors, but I'd be interested in hearing about other possibilties.

For starters, I would get a box of WE warriors (obviously) a command blister and a blister of sentinels. Then you can gradually move up by getting Legolas Thranduil and another box of warriors. But that's just if you're using Mirkwood, of course.

There's a message from yesterday with a similar question that was well-answered, it might help. 250 points isn't much to work with, but a pretty standard list might be:

Legolas - 90 points
WE, bow x 6: 54 points
WE, spear x 6: 48 points
WE, throwing daggers x 6: 54 points

246 points, 19 models

You could use a WE captain instead, but you'd only get a couple more models and Legolas is worth it. Other possibilities are a Galadhrim hero like Haldir or Rumil, which lets you take 2 more warriors, or a Galadhrim captain or Stormcaller which lets you take 3 more warriors.

Thanks thats a good solid list. I have a spare Legolas, Haldir and Lorien standard bearer so he's set for command I think. So perhaps
two dozen Galadrhim warriors on top of that would work well. I'm afarid I haven't got the latest books so I don't know the new points values (still going from the RoTK book.) I'll pop and get the LoME book this weekend. The important thing is that I can teach him to paint these to a good standard and we'll be able to have short 45 minute fun games. I'm not concerened with building a competitive list, just something that looks likea good army and won't cost an arm and a leg to try out. Thanks for the suggestions guys :).

If you're looking at wood elves, don't get LoME. Get the latest rulebook, Fall of the Necromancer sourcebook, and/or the latest PDF from GW, here:

You have to register and sign in.

Thanks Whafrog I'll do that. I must say that although I seldom complain about GW's products, I can't help but feel that there is a certain lack of coherance with all these different books and PDF updates. One rulebook and individual army books work well enough for WHFB and 40K, why not here. Anyway thats for another thread and a very minor peeve.

Thanks guys I think I can help him make a start with this 8).

Thats the exact list that I use at 250 points. Sometimes I don't have throwing daggers tho, usually i do. :)
