Post subject:  250 pts. Tournament tommorow!

I've got a few 250 pts. armies but I'm not sure which to use. The tournament starts tommorow so I need replies rather quickly. It goes on over 3 weekends but I don't know if I'll be able to change armies or not.
Here they are:

Mordor:

75pts. MoS on ADS
174pts. 25 orcs, 8 shields, 8 spears, 4 2H, 4 OB, 1 Banner

Total:249pts. 1 might 26 figures 4 shots

OR

Mordor:

60pts. MoS
160pts. 20 M orcs 10 shields, 10 spears
30pts. orc with banner

Total:250pts. 1 might 22 figures 0 shots

OR

Rivendell:

75pts. Erestor (or elf captain with Heavy armour)
175pts. 17 elf warriors with heavy armour, 12 with shields, 5 with elf bows

Total: 250pts. 1 might (or 2 if I take the captain) 18 figures 5 shots

OR

Thranduil's Halls:

75pts. Elf captain with elf bow and throwing daggers
54pts. 6 wood elves with elf bows
80pts. 8 wood elves with elven blades and throwing daggers
40pts. 5 wood elves with wood elf spears

Total: 249pts. 2 might 20 figures 6 shots+9 throwing daggers

OR finally

Grey company:

100pts. 4 dunedain
144pts. 16 rangers with spears

Total:244pts. 4 might 20 figures 20 shots

I'm tempted to take the GC force because of the massive amount of shots and might but I might take Mordor for sheer numbers. Ideas

P.S I'll be sure to get back to everyone on the results

I would go for Mordor. You have numbers and a cheap Captain/Spellcaster.

Which one though?

Sorry, I meant the first one. Tranfix and cavalry rules make MoS a force to be feared. Of course, I've only looked at his profile on paper.

With the Mouth of Saroun you cover all your bases.
Spells, break tests and a decent combat hero.

Personally i don't think the Mouth of Sauron is a good hero to have in such a low point battle. i'd be looking for a figure with more might, Gorbag is probably the best themed choice for the first list, i'd give him a shield as well, this will give you 25 more points. i'd use these points to take some elites, M orcs or mordor uruks

50pts gorbag with Shield
150pts. 21 orcs, 8 shields, 8 spears, , 4 OB, 1 Banner
45pts 5 mordor uruk-hai with 2 handed weapons

245pts, 3 might, 27 figures, 4 shots

sure you lose the majic, but the might store should keep you out of trouble, also means you can upgrade your orcs with 2h to uruk-hai, increasing the punch that you pack

if you have the figures that is! out of the lists i like the 2nd, but then i'm always evil :)

though Mos is a little bit expensive but from the options you provided I would go with Mordor, second one. but if I'm not mistaken there is something with your orc calculations.

10 orcs (Sh)....60
10 orcs (Sp)....60

so 120pts not 160. and now you have space for more troops, may be:

- 5 morannon orcs (Sh) is a great option for D6 troops if possible.
- 2 orcs (Sp), 1 orc (Sh), 3 orcs (2H)
- or something I tried for diversification before and it worked nice was: 2 orcs (2H) as a killing squad, and 4 orcs (Sp+B) move at half speed while shooting then rush into battle when main force is engaged.
- a drummer could be nice for acquiring objectives faster, but probably would make it a hero heavy list.

and you have a good leader and numbers too as a good orc army should be.

in the second list the orcs are morannon orcs, costing 8 points each

oh, I guess I missed the "M".

then I would go with first list. you could drop the steed and the 4 OB and get 5 morannon orcs with shields.

also as the director suggested Gorbag instead of MoS on that level of points is not a bad idea, but I guess you'll have no direct access to morannon orcs. I could be mistaken though.

The only problem with Gorbag is that he dosen't quite fit my aim. I'm planning to quickly dispose of the enemy hero with a transfix, swarm and ADS charge which would hopefully end up with a very messy MoS-wielded sword.

Also I don't have Gorbag yet  but I'm planning to get him soon.

that is a good plan, getting rid of the hero will mean enemy armies wont stick around long after being broken, which also means you'll have to look after the MoS when you're at breaking point.

Ty. And, yes, I won't be relying so much on MoS combat wise, maybe just to square off a few fights here and there.
