I just bought the Fellowship of the Ring soundtrack after promising myself I would get if for about 7 years. Man, I've forgotten how powerful and haunting the music is. Now I feel all inspired to get back into LOTR again (which was part of my reason for buying the CD).

Just thought I'd share. :D

:D Glad you could get 'back in the mood'. Did you get the 45 minute soundtrack, or the 3 hour score? I just got the score a couple of weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Lord of the rings music rocks! :-D

The 45 minute version. I saw the CD as I was looking for something else and thought "heck yeah!" - I didn't realise there was a longer version of the score available.

I have got the Return of the King Soundtrack and it is amazing to listen to while painting. The music is really inspiring and some of the singing is superb as well.

Being a minor fanatic, (evidence, The Backlog), I have 3 versions of each soundtrack: the single disc that came out with the cinema release, the twin disc collector's version that came out a bit later, and the Complete Recordings. There are a few differences in some tracks, suggesting that some versions used different 'takes' as the music was rearranged to suit the editing of the movies. I could listen to all of them at any time, painting or not.

But to be fair, there is a lot of other great film score music out there - Pirates of the Caribbean, the latest Robin Hood and others - I also listen to these while engaged in hobby work and other nefarious practices. Very relaxing. I also listen to comedy but laughing a lot is not conducive to painting fine lines...

:D I got the 45 min version of rotk for christmas, now I just need ttt....

I would also echo dorthonion in saying that the pirates of the caribbean soundtrack's are great. I just love 'epic' sounding music. :-D

I've had the Fellowship music for some time now, and have been meaning to get the soundtracks for the other two films - I can name about half the songs on the RotK soundtrack having never seen it. :P

On the same note (horrible pun  ) I recently posted something about the original recordings for the films in The Films & Books section.

Yes, i agree with Dorth about the Pirates soundtrack. I was sitting in my study working on the computer while my son watched Pirates 2: Dead Man's Chest in a different room. Not watching the film myself, I was amazed at just how evocative the music was - a true masterpiece of scoring!

Well Gladiator has a good sound track, along with The Matrix.

I agree with the Gladiator recommendation - there are 2 sets of CD's for that one alone. Transformers has some good stuff, as has The Da Vinci Code. Whatever rocks your boat (piratey or otherwise). And then there is the spaghetti Western series - unmistakeable!

While I was listening to the Pirates soundtrack the other day, I was reminded of Transformers - I wonder if they were written by the same guy?
