Post subject:  Making your own shields

Hi guys,
I just picked up 12 Grim Hammers with the intenion of converting them into Warriors of Erebor, so naturally I will need some shields for them. I know I can pick up some from various sites and sources, however, I'm interested in making them on my own.
I was thinking of just cutting some old credit card. They will look flat, so I guess some greenstuff on the edges and umbo is needed. What are your thoughts, did you make some yourself? What would fit the dwarves best?

Thank you.

If you want to use the credit card, I recommend using plasticard with green stuff.

When I made some Rohan shields for decorating my Rohan houses/watchtowers, I made a press mold and used casting resin.

For the mold I used Sculpey III oven-bake clay. Bought the small package, pressed some of it flat and then gently pressed the shield into it. You might want to glue something onto the back of the shield to grab to make removing it from the mold easier.

I use Alumilite Super Plastic casting resin to make the shield. I like this resin as it is a simple one to one mixing ratio that you can just use a few drops at a time to mix.

I never bother with baking the mold as it makes removing the resin easier and I can reuse the clay.

You need to make sure the top of the mold is flat and you can use the old credit card to scrape the excess resin off.

Your shields will be flat on the back with no detail using this method but this is my preferred method for projects such as this.

You can also make a press mold and use green stuff with instant mold
