Hello everyone,

I am finally getting around to painting Treebeard, mighty Ent, and need some help. I have a (kind of newbie) question for anybody who has assembled and painted GW's Treebeard set. It's this set here (except I have the original metal cast, not finecast):

My question relates to Pippin and Merry. Is it easier to:

A) Attach Pippin and Merry to Treebeard and THEN paint them

OR

B) Paint Pippin and Merry then glue them to treebeard.

I ask because I have not yet painted a model of this scale and difficulty yet. It sounds like it might be easier to paint Pippin and Merry and then glue them to Treebeard, but that might also add a degree of difficulty by requiring me to paint Pippin and Merry loose. By loose I mean unattached to any base; normally I glue GW figures into their base then paint them, but seeing as this Pippin and Merry do not come with a base I might have to grip them by their legs or some other part of the figure which sounds difficult. Then again, attaching Pippin and Merry to Treebeard and painting them after would be difficult if there is not much space to maneuver a paint brush into the crevices.

If anybody can help me or offer any other advice about this model that would be much appreciated.

Personally I found it much easier to paint Merry and Pippin away from Tree beard.

I'm not much of a painter but I did paint merry and pip, as well as the forestry-base thing separate first

Personally, when I did mine, I painted Merry and Pippin individually, however I chose not to attached them with superglue or greenstuff, and simply used a small piece of BlueTac to hold them in place.
This meant I could remove them from Treebeard without causing any damage to him.

To paint Merry and Pippin, I drilled a hole into their butts, and used a wooden cocktail stick on each, which gave me something to hold when painting them.



I have always found, the bigger the miniature, the easier it is to paint. Treebeard is one of the easiest.

There are fouler things than Orcs in the deep places of the world

Due to the size I work from the top down. Paint Merry and Pippin first and the head shoulder area of treebeard. Glue them in place then touch up accordingly.
Now work your way down.
I tend to find I hold figures close and can rub off the paint lower down with my clumsy handling. So painting my way down stops this.
