Best thing you can do, is open them in store, and if its not good enough, ask for a replacement. And if the replacement is Devlan Mud, ask them to replace the replacement. Eventually GW will get the message and get its act together once they've made enough of a loss with people returning defective Finecast (ha!) models.

Having to reshape warped models in hot water is one thing, but actual damage to the model? For the price you're paying, you have a right to expect a perfect product. I read a comment recently saying that a person received a Finecrap model with deep pits or bubbles in the surface. Someone, presumably a GW employee, had apparently tried to fill the holes with superglue, but made a mess of it. That reeks of desperation to me, if GW is resorting to repairing models that are being sold for a premium.

Who should I ask about getting this moved? I haven't seen many Admins around on here that much, so I don't know who is that active.

I have absolutly no problem with finecast, as I never got a a wrong one(perhaps because I buy all fragile or easytodamage sets myself in our local shop). I also think the finecast ones better keep their paint, are easier to paint well, and look better than metal ones. Hope I'm not the only one with this opinion :-D

This is my plan for when I eventually have to buy boxed finecast minis, yeah. It's a shame though, because ordinarily I'd mailorder from a retailer with better prices - a GW store is about the worst place to buy your minis, price-wise. But having to potentially return/wait for/return several boxes by mail would be pretty dire, so...

Not bothered to read most of the thread because I'm aware of miscasts and stuff, but I just thought it prudent to say that you should check the blister before you buy (not your responsibility, but may as well avoid the problems if possible) and if it's a sealed box, open it at the till and if it's defective, it will be replaced. Also, at Meadowhall (not sure if it's all stores), they take the model, make notes on the defects and send it back to Warhammer World so that they can try and pinpoint any problems with the casting process (Mounted Amdur's head for example).

As for quality control - the problem is that there are two guys that do it and one is pretty good. The other seems to just let everything go through, from what I've heard.

At least GW are now aware of the problem, although they should have been from the very start.

They really do have a cheek don't they...Coming out with a defective product line, replacing the old less detailed but more reliable metals with a more detailed but totally unreliable resin material, which also happens to be cheaper to manufacture. Charging a fortune for it - a large markup from the more expensive metal materials. Then calling it FINEcast, despite all the high profile quality control issues.

I found out that the reason behind the miscasts is that all of the Great Beasts were removed from their molds to soon, so the majority of the casts altered shape before they solidified. I will repeat this in the Great Beast thread.

On a positive note, the first Warg Marauder I picked up, I fully checked in store and as perfect.

I'm not unwilling to accept Finecast because of the price (although that will put a damper on the quantity of my purchases) but because all three GW stores closest to me have closed down in the past couple of years. Without the ability to take a good look at the models, I'm unwilling to blindly buy them.

At least with metal they could melt it down and recast it. GW knew there was a defect and sent it out any way so they won't object too strongly if you insist they replace it.
Has any one had a problem with the watcher?

That concerns me too, but yes they will do allsorts of refunds, fixing etc until they are sorted at factory, think how much money they wasted, thats probably the reason they cost so much.

I am interested to know how to you know GW knew there were defects??

Too many of you talk like you should have a product that is clip together.
GW are gracious in that they replace any less than perfect model but there is an onus on you to become a hobbiest and work with what you are given.

Obviously with the new Great Beast there is a large issue. So take a photo and send it to the Customer service people and they will send you a replacement (usually letting you keep the rubbish one)
GW are the only mass producing resin users. Their LOTR stuff alone makes other resin producers look like garage sales. So lets cut them a break. Stop moaning and aim to solve the problem.

Just received my Gondorian Commanders in the post, these are my second finecast purchases (first being a Grey Knight Grand Master). And I have to say my opinion of finecast has sunken dramatically.

The Knight of the White Tree is the worst of the bunch took me 45+ min of filing, clipping and bending to get into a semi-acceptable fashion (still might have to steal a metal anduril for the sword), with some of the worse mould lines I have ever seen on a model. 5mm THICK! The cast is just terrible which is surprising as this is the only model designed purposefully for Finecast.

The others have the generic assortment of finecast defects such as:
  • Bubbles, Bubbles & More Bubbles
  • Bent/Warped out of shape
  • Don’t fit in SlottaBases
  • Cracks and Mould lines
  • Ridiculous amounts of flash

The only acceptable one in the pack was the captain, which is such an ugly pose, I much prefer the older style Minas Tirith captains.

Show us picutres CSblackhawk.

Everyone, show pictures, it is easier to see the defects, than read it. Like at the beast of Gorgoroth post.
