So while playing LOTR the Third Age (again as there's very few good RPG's out there). I thought "I wonder who everyone's favorite non -Tolkien character is.

For myself it's Berethor from the 3rd age. He's brave (charges headlong against the Nazgul for instance) and just a beast by the end of the game. I'm also big on Beleram the Eagle from WITN.

So that's the question: Who is your favorite LOTR character that wasn't created by Tolkien?

To name a few (to get the mind going), there's Idrial, Hadhod, Elegost (all from Third age). Tauriel, Agendaur, Wolfrun, and even Rumil and others from SBG.

I like the Golden King and Amdur from SBG, and Fimbul from da Hobbit. Does movie Gothmog count? Cos he's awesome!

Yeah I'd say he counts as well. Good choices

Edit: I'd also consider Haldir a non - Tolkien creation as he is obviously very very different in the films

Rúmil is from the books: he is one of the guards on the borders of Lothlórien, brother to Haldir and Orophin (latter of which for some reason never got a profile). Profile isn't in line with that character of course, but then again, neither is Haldir's. :P
Gothmog is of course also from the book, in a way.

As for non-Tolkien characters, Múrin and Drár are pretty cool, but there can only be one true great character, no matter how lacking in personality he is: Lurtz! :lurtz: Simply awesome.

My favourite non-Tolkien character is probably Rhoghash from Battle for Middle-Earth II Rise of the Witch-King.

Berethor. Hands down, Berethor is awesome. Those days of gaming on the playstation and playing the Third Age and BFME on PC were some of the best, and Berethor won't soon be forgotten as a part of them.

Lurtz from the films is awesome, though lacking in a lot more screen time. And I like Thrydan Wolfsbane too. A great character for SBG.

I love his leap/slam ability

I'm not sure why, but ever since playing War in the North I've had a soft-spot for Farin. I played the game three times, on varying difficulties, planning to use a different character during each playthrough, but in the end I always came back to good ol' Farin. I even converted a LOTR SBG miniature to resemble him. Sadly, I no longer have the miniature but he was essentially one of the Gimli's painted differently, and I'd converted him to be helmet-less and wield a hammer rather than an axe.

Im pretty sure the cave troll in Moria is the best non-tolkien creation, as he isn't mentioned in the books :D

My genuine answer is Lurtz, though he's a fairly one-dimensional character.

My sort-of genuine answer is Figwit, although I guess Figwit has been retconned to be Lindir. The Figwit story is funny and fascinating.

Also, Hodush--I believe the troll is mentioned in the books, but is removed from combat by a stab to its foot before it even enters the room. I could be wrong.

Jamros, FIGWIT! I was going to say him, but forgot his name half way through posting.

You are correct also, only Sting is able to cut him, I had forgotten that, but he still takes my vote as just about every lotr collection has one I'd say :)

The wraith-ranger in the Shadow of Morder will blow all these away when the game is released. That guy looks ridiculous.

The exact reason why I will never purchase or play it lol. Although I'm assuming you meant a different use of the word

I mostly like his dialogue.

Agendaur for me. I find all the Dark Númenóreans interesting. Rumil for SBG though his special rule is always effective.

Either Berethor or that one peasant from Bree. You know the guy, he's immortal, and still gnawing on that same carrot over sixty years later!

Lurtz has been my favourite character since I was 11. The Black Knight of Middle-Earth!

Cool idea for a topic James!

This probably won't make me any friends but I chuffing love Tauriel! I think she looks cool, fits in the universe well, Evenageline Lily was awesome in the movie and she's just so damn cool! I love her in the game too, really cool rules and a lovely profile that really shook up the 'obvious' choices of Leggy and Thranduil. Also, her musical theme is hands down the best new theme in DOS and I find that yelling 'dedeh-dedel-eeeeerrrrrrrrr' as you roll really helps your dice! Skip to 1:15 for help with pronunciation!

I'll stand with you on that Dr Grant. I too like Tauriel and what she brings to the table. She's the only female in the movies thus far I actually think is cool.

Tauriel is good, I'm just angry at elves in general. They've stolen the movie from the dwarves and Bilbo.
