Yes. As much as it was a fun throwback to LotR, I felt it was a bit... wrong. It's been a while since I read the Hobbit, but I'm sure the orcs weren't as far afield. I mean, the threat of Dunedain and Elves would have halted that. |

Oh well why put a good scenery to waste.. Reminds me of that statue here: I found it appearing twice in FoTR and I think I remember it in Osgiliath aswell, but can't find it atm.. Really great performance It seems kinda "cheap", but it gives me great satisfaction when I note things like that. Maybe the Studio's want's us to play a game precious. |

Timeline wise it sort of works, Aragorn was just starting to take the fight to Sauron, Weathertop (unconfirmed in books) might not yet be a ranger cache till later in his years, after driving the orcs out of the north and away from Bree, Fornost and the shire. What [word deleted] me off was the lines they gave to Elrond they weren't enjoying a long peace. His wife had recently been captured by orcs and left him for Valinor. Arathorn had been killed by trolls, war was brewing, the north was not at peace. |

I agree that they probably shouldn't have been there, but on the other side of the coin, the presence and persistence of the hunters is really a creation of the film anyway so should be looked at under its own light. Given that, we should probably just accept that the small group of fast Warg riders were able to slip past the Rangers, possibly with some losses, and stay ahead of any pursuers while trying to chase down the Dwarves. And the use of Weathertop would make sense considering it was a watch tower and would have a rather commanding view of the surrounding area. I personally thought it was kind of fun seeing one of my favorite locations back for a cameo appearance. As for reuse, in most cases film sets are destroyed after the movie is made. Considering how long ago FotR was filmed, I really doubt much of the original Weathertop set remained in tact. I'm sure it was much easier to recreate it the second time around but it was still most likely a fresh set. As it's only shown briefly and in the dark with many of the 'characters' there being CGI, there's a really good chance that a lot of it may even just be CGI for the most part as well. |

I'm sure he meant it's a snapshot from streaming one of the trailers, previews or production vlogs. |

OFC! But if u were sued for streaming theres too many loopholes and the company would probably only do so if they could gain money on it. But ofc u are right, one shouldn't stream! |

I'm pretty positive they didn't actually make a full Weathertop set. They have the general inside set that they have when the actors are inside it. Other than that, Weathertop is just CGI ruins on a real hill. They found the perfect one when they were looking for scenery for filming in Two Towers. For that reason, it wouldn't be too hard to duplicate. |

Well, it makes sense that the statues would be everywhere, Gondor and Arnor used to be the same country after all, that was likely some King or other, maybe even Elendil for all we know (I doubt that it's actually him though). As for the sets, I'm 99% positive that they had to destroy all of the on location stuff, or at least tear it down, including the Shire. I don't think the NZ government wanted the landscape dotted with stuff from a movie that might not be popular. I bet they wish they hadn't done that now, it would be a GREAT tourist destination. |

Well, i know that The Shire is still there! It was rebuilt for the hobbit movies and is now made of permanent materials + The guy who owns the land, made made a deal with New Line Cinema to arrange guided tourist tours! He now maintains The Shire and all the small gardens and still runs his farm. (the hobbiton set lies on some of his farm land) Link for the tours http://www.hobbitontours.com/ |

I'm 100% positive that they never made any on location sets for Weathertop. Just CGI and the internal shots in the studio. You can find this out in the DVD extras for the 1st film. |

Perhaps not for Weathertop, but IIRC they reused the exact same hillside for the Golden hall of Meduseld in Edoras. They built an actual on-location set there with the hall itself and surrounding structures (stables huts etc), though tore it down after filming was concluded as it was on a protected area of land (conservation area, or a military firing range, I forget which). The rest of Edoras, all the area below the hillside and the walls were just CGI. |
