Just read this on bols. "The new Games Day is called Warhammerfest, will be held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry over the Saturday & Sunday of the 11th/12th October, the Golden Demon bit will be on the Sunday, tickets will be £20/day" Apparently it was announced at the fw open day, I'm sure we will hear more over the coming days. |

"Warhammerfest" ? Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. What a godawful name. Still, DMS will be pleased as he still wants a Golden Demon. And if its in October, then he'll still be able to attend Desolation of Stockport 2 in September. |

Apparently armies on parade is 25th Oct so isn't part of Games day/ warhammerfest. I kinda like the name. Suitably nerdy |

"£20 a day"... £40 for the weekend... Isn't that cheaper than the old Gamesdays? |

Good god, GW does its fans a favour for once. What is the world coming to. Hopefully the name doesn't imply that the Hobbit will be [even more] sidelined. |

I thought that was the case anyway with Games Days in recent years? So its nothing new. With the One Man Store policy, GW doesn't have the manpower to simultaneously run stores and build, paint and prepare miniature displays, dioramas, gaming boards and participation games for Games Day. Add that to the lack of subsidies and incentives for independent clubs to build and paint displays for the show (I read comments recently, probably on a blog, that GW used to subsidise the costs for clubs who built display boards etc for the show by paying for their transport & hotels, but in recent years withdrew the subsidy and replaced it with a paltry gift bag "Spend hundreds of pounds, countless hours and travel halfway across the country to provide a display for Games Day...and GW gives you a t-shirt). |

Yeah the boards went downhill pretty fast between the two years I attended. My favourite board was the giant battle for five armies set using war of the ring movement trays. They forgot the sticks to push the units around though so no one could reach across the massive board haha. Then next year it was just realms of battle boards with a mumak on... I do wonder if the stores will be doing coaches down to one of the days still? |
