I've spent the last few months working on a website for Wargaming Miniature collectors. That website is called Mini Legions.

The initial database is limited to just the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit, Strategy Battle Game miniatures range. This is because it's a personal favourite but also a manageable data sample. In the long run people will be able to add miniatures from all product lines and manufacturers.

In the long run the aim is to have a site where people can buy and sell miniatures from each other. List parts and accessories. Organise games and track their win/loss ratios. Group miniatures by Force or Army for display and generally support all aspects of the toy soldiers hobby.

If you have any problems, bugs, glitches, feedback or ideas then please please email us (hq@minilegions.com) or equally you can tweet at us @minilegions or even write an update on the site as the Mini Legions HQ account will follow everyone.

Hope you enjoy the site and obviously bear in mind it's early days and will get exponentially more exciting as it grows. You might see a few familiar faces from The One Ring on there already...

This is a brilliant idea!

I've just signed up. Username: Aranarth (picked Edithae at first, the name of my 40K Raven Guard captain but changed it to a LOTR theme)

Great guys.
So pleased to see One Ringers on there. Try uploading a picture. Hopefully together we can get a gallery of all the LotR/Hobbit miniatures.

If anyone is interested in being a contributor to the DB and helping to complete the SBG listing and expand into 40k and other game systems then put an update on the site and we'll change your settings.

Really with the all the hits we got yesterday from around the world. So much interest. Thank you.

Great work. You've got the hang of it. I've just simplified the add_to_collection system. A bit quicker now. Thanks so much for uploading pictures. I've voted for them so they now have GOLD awards. Funn.

I’ve signed up and noticed that things like the Barrow Wights don’t have anything to identify which is 1 or 2. Will that just depend on the first one to have a photo uploaded?

So how do I upload pictures of my mini's? I can't figure it out.

EDIT: scratch that I figured it out. Also, you don't have Suladan

Farmer Maggot, I've gone with the order they appear in the GW catalogues which is also the order they appear in the Unofficial Collectors guide. For some models I've described them.

samoht, you're doing great with the uploading! As for things that are missing, I'm still adding but if you'd like to help add to the database too I can make you a Contributor. Just say the word.

EDIT:

Just realised we have added Suladân but he's got fussy spelling with the accent. This doesn't show up in search unless you get the accent. A quirk of Postgresql, the database that our site runs on. I'm looking for a way for search to ignore accents. For now you can find him via the Production lines/Harad & Umbar.

For Gondor!

Farmer Maggot, I've added descriptions to distinguish between the two wights.

Cool!

What does a contributor do?

Post subject:  Re: Introducing Mini Legions

Contributors can add Miniatures. (For instance Suladan on foot is not in the db yet)
They can edit existing miniatures if the info is wrong (that came out in 2002 not 2003).
They can add Miniatures to product lines and individual miniatures to sets.

Basically help make the database complete. It's not for everyone but it's the kind of thing I'm into :-)

A big thanks to the One Ring users for getting stuck in with the site. We're making progress towards a complete LotR/Hobbit listing and Aranel is doing a great job adding images.

What we need now is more people adding painted pictures and also you can now upload unpainted ones for comparison and in some cases as placeholders until we have painted ones. If you want to upload unpainted pictures, just ask to be a Contributor and then you'll get all the Edit options.

Great to see people logging on allover the world! Thank you. I think this can really turn out to be something good.

Post subject:  Re: Introducing Mini Legions

A little update:

Thanks to the help of some people on here, GBHL & TLA I think we have an almost complete catalogue of Lotr/Hobbit releases: https://minilegions.com/lines/1

I say almost complete because the individual miniatures from many plastic sets are not yet listed. Will be soon. Now it's just a case of getting people uploading painted pictures and getting a bit of brushwork competition going.

Also if you can see omissions, errors that need correcting or you have a lot of unpainted minis you could photograph then maybe you'd like to become a Contributor? Contributors are users that can edit the listings and upload unpainted pictures for miniatures that don't yet have them.

A big thanks to the people who are using the site already and putting up pictures. We'll hopefully start adding other product lines soon but getting the SBG content up to scratch is the priority. For Frodo!
