I thought it was just an April Fool's joke, but it appears that the Gundabad Orcs from the Desolation of Smaug new releases have vanished from the US GW website.

Does anyone have any news about this, or is this some brand new bit of Great News! from the GW marketing department: "Miniatures so rare we don't even sell them!"

Not in the Canadian one, and Girion is gone as well.

The best thing you can do is simply e-mail them and ask them.

NOOOO!!!

Maybe I need to head to my GW and see if they have any copies of the minis left. Much as I dislike the headgear, I really like the sculpts after seeing them on the site. Didn't think I'd have so little time to get them though! My GW store isn't even open Sunday or Monday.

Maybe someone got slapped for releasing these. The DVD is not out until next week (so maybe they didn't like the spoiler of this release), and the other really big thing is that PJ has so far changed his mind in between films as to how he wants things to look (CGI ORCS are an easy change for him) and so maybe the gundabads will not look like this anymore in the next film.

Aside from those two valid reasons for it, I can't think of anything aside from out of stock and are sick of taking orders they can't fill.

Hmm, going by reports on faeit, it seems finecast models are disappearing from other ranges too.

Could be a switch to the rumoured new resin/ FW taking over production. But the Gundabads seem an odd one, because they're so new. Hopefully this simply means they've sold enough that their allotted amount until the next (new resin) production run has almost sold through well ahead of schedule, and we'll have to make do with what's floating around the stores until the new stuff hits. That'd be some rare positive spin for sbg.

Incidentally, really looking forward to the new resin - might actually buy some of the Pike/Spear armed minis then.

Well, I could actually do one better.
I went to the World of Battle in Memphis (I live within 30 miles) and talked to the manager of the store there.
She said they were selling them like hotcakes all weekend. As soon as she put more out, people bought them.
She had 1 clamshell left each of Girion, Gundabad Captain, Gundabad Swords, and Gundabad Spears, so I bought them all.

I told her about the website and she thought that was REALLY weird since they were selling so well, and that she would check into it for me.

It will be interesting to see if these were pulled because of the DVD/BluRay release or if they are undergoing some major redesign at the last second by PJ.

Gundabads are a stock issue. My GW store manager said HQ massively underestimated how popular they would be and simply did not make enough. The store was only allocated one blister of each (which I promptly picked up) because pre order sales wiped out the stock. They will be back once the manufacturing process catches up.

Shame, isn't it? I went to my GW yesterday and picked up their last blister of spearmen. Left the Captain because I'm not 100% sure on him still. The manager of the store said that he could order more in for me. In fact, he said that he should already have more coming in next week. I left without doing the order because I'd already ordered the Isengard commanders set and bought one blister of Gundabads, Tauriel and some super glue. $120 for 8 minis and some glue was dear enough!

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Undercuts, larger models, it may be they could not cut the model up properly to make good plastics of them. But maybe they could have made generic versions of them with various heads and a 6 model sprue for $40 (almost no savings from FC).

Just like with Lake Town, I am Thrilled that the hobbit is selling well.
