Okay sorry if you thought this was official, but I've just done some proper analysis of the picture in the DOS book.
Its clear there's only 3 swordsman and 3 spearman (in the picture).

I'm 99% sure that means we're getting FC clam-packs. :x

Enjoy.

I suppose there's the possibility of a box of twelve with two of each pose, but after seeing how they dealt with Laketown it seems unlikely. I don't think too many of us will be surprised if this turns out to be true. That said, they are some nice looking models (although the helmets seem to be an evil version of the SKoDA).

As far as I have seen the Hobbit box sets have had 10-12 unique sculpts.

That being said, I believe they will be finecast, which I will at least get a pack or 2 of pikemen to support the hunter orcs.

That's going to have to be a new sized pack because there's no way a standard clam-pack could hold 3 models the size of Azog

Unless of course that some of those are captain models. Perhaps it is 2 models per clam and two captains.

Looks like people will be converting their Uruk-Hai into these.

Just wondering...are these Gundabad Orc "elite" troops like Beserkers or just a more normal type of troops like Uruk-Hai?

The battle for dimril dale in the DoS book calls for 36 of these!

Anyone with half a brain can tell that the Gundabad Orcs would sell as well as the Mirkwood elves or Dwarves, maybe better. As fine cast is ideal for pumping out low yield models without any significant initial investment (in contrast with plastic), this doesn't speak well of their commitment to the rest of the releases in my opinion.

This is a conclusion I came to earlier on. Somehow, I still like their look, but, however,
again and again I am tempted to start casting my own miniatures, not wanting to pay such prices.

36 would probably cost about £180 GBP... Cheaper than doing the mirkwood spiders!

I really think that you are correct, these will be either finecast clam packs or fine cast 6 in a box for £30.

I think that most of the DOS book and December wave were AUJ 1.5 releases (from a 2 movie plan)

The subsequent January releases from the second half of the film are finecast stop gap releases in my opinion. I don't think we will see any more plastic until December. Then we might get a plastic set of orcs fur the five armies, 'Dol Goldur' orcs or something, depending on sales of the DOS we may also see a Plastc Bolg, Plastic Bard. A new fellowship (either finecast or plastic) and possibly even another set of plastic iron hills dwarves or men. I'm not sure we will ever see Smaug...

But this is all speculation of course and I hope come february I am happily painting new plastic Orcs and eating my words.

The thing I'm most gutted about has already happened, the awful finecast spiders... What a waste! If we were not banned from moaning about a certain company Id wonder out loud why the paid so much to keep the licence.

Yeah, I suspect these were guys we were meant to see glimpses of, and would be released in clam packs to re-create some small scene.

The Orcs fighting at the Battle of the Five Armies would probably look rather different than either these guys or the Hunter Orcs we've already seen. Those soldier Orcs would thus be on a plastic sprue.

But as noticed, since we have three instead of two movies, we're seeing minor players such as the Laketown guard pushed harder.

I'm not so sure about different orcs being at the BoFA, if I recall correctly we see these exact gundabad orcs marching at Dol Guldur in DOS supposedly preparing for the BoFA. I have a bad feeling the orc troop types for BoFA will just be hunter orcs foot and on wargs and then these gundabad orcs.

I'm really hoping to be wrong though because I'd love just one more box of plastic orcs.

Suppose we'll just have to wait and see if they come out in plastic next year...

I'm hoping for 10 plastics in a box; however if these are a FC release I'll still purchase them. I do want to have a pure Gundabad force for lower points games and my Bolg (I will not call him a mere general because he's cooler than the new CG Bolg) need's some Elite troops to lead.

I could see myself picking up 2-3 packs of each. A bit steep I know but at least its no more expensive than the original metals (3 Khazads, 3 Uruk Scouts etc) were and while I do prefer metal I can live with a small repeat of that

What the hell are those?! That's not what I was picturing when I heard about Gundabad Orcs. Were those buggers in the films? Who are the more lightly armoured guys who Bolg leads in DoS?
