Hey all, I just got this video in an email: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kZTkxDd ... ature=plcp I unsuccessfully tried to use the YouTube code, I apologize. In this video, Matthew from Miniwargaming states that he has just received an email from Games Workshop regarding this year's price increase. He mentions that the increase will be as much as 5 to 20% on some products. Matthew also confirms that the price increase will be next Wednesday, May 30 (and advertises a sale), but I don't have a precise list on what exactly is increasing in price. Matthew only mentions a handful of 40K products in his video, so there's no telling how Lord of the Rings will be affected. If you're in the midst of some army building, now might be the time to stock up. It will be interesting to compare the prices of The Hobbit boxed sets later this year to that of the original FotR boxes! |

got the mail too this afternoon. then I thought nooooooooooo. cuz this is on top of the other price increase. gw is almost making it a game, price increases. I think I can handle the new price, but I cam imagine people who are having less money to spend will have some harder time buying minis. lets always be positive and look forward to the hobbit release. greets martijn |

and with so many pretenders to the throne all taking a bite out of their market, they really don't get it do they.. e.g http://defiancegames.com/for alternatives to tyrannid/bug type armies and imperial guards - check the quality and the price! (btw not affiliated in any way to the above!) |

Re-posting some stuff from Coen over on TLA (It's crazy to see the trays for wotr go up by 40%! at least I don't play wotr...): Coën wrote: The sun is shining, temperatures rising and birds singing their beautiful songs. You guessed it, it's time for.. wait for it.. another price increase! Appearantly takes place the 28th of May, only know some US dollar prices, but don't worry, prices in euros, pounds, beerbottlecaps or whatever it is you pay with will probably be affected as well. I'll just copy-paste the LotR and general list here, will add some percentages etc later on. Enjoy! Hmm.. and I thought there wasn't going to be one this year -_- That was silly of me! I was considering getting some things before the rise, but I'd only be saving a couple of £'s |

Nice find, londoncalling. Those look pretty good & I see a lot of potential for more than just bugs in those bug models. |

I've only traded and bought used stuff now when I started the hobby again, but when The Hobbit arrives, I can't avoid buying stuff directly from GW. That won't be good for my student economy. |

I've switched paint range to Vallejo and just buy off ebay so I don't really care. |

I've used some Reaper pro paints combined with my "old" gw paints. I won't be buying many citadel paints in the future when there's good and cheaper alternatives. But I guess we can't avoid the new miniatures that will come toghether with The Hobbit. |

Easy, don't buy Hobbit miniatures. Teach them a good lesson. |

people are going to buy GW stuff no matter what. we cant just say we wont buy from them. its kinda like a handful of people boycotting walmart. doesnt hurt them. anyways, I'm going to be switching to Reaper Paints, only bc i like them better. My gw paints are fine, price has nothing to do with it. I'll pay what i have to for what i like. |

That's not going to work. And, if you love the game, you wouldn't really want to see gw go out of business....so....yeah. |

That's not going to work. And, if you love the game, you wouldn't really want to see gw go out of business....so....yeah. Well, I agree with you in some respects--I don't think the handful of people that have successfully committed to GW boycotts over the years have had any effect on GW's business. I also think that if this entire website were to unanimously boycott GW, it still wouldn't have an effect on GW's overall success. That being said, I'm not really into the "let's teach them a lesson" motive of boycotting GW, and I probably should have clarified that when agreeing with Sacrilege. I do, however, support purchasing little to no GW products on a personal standpoint; I can't afford GW products, so I rarely buy them. If I can't afford/don't necessarily want the new Hobbit miniatures when they arrive, I won't force myself to buy them, either. I think I reached my "breaking point" around when Finecast was released; I could no longer afford LotR minis, and I found that I just plain didn't quite even want them as much as I used to. I understand, though, that for most members here, the "magic" of GW's LotR range hasn't worn off Regarding the death of the games...it was almost always about painting the miniatures for me. I've done a lot of army building, but rarely any playing. There are no local players, hobby shops, or gaming clubs, so its been me and my brother. That's GW's fault; their exorbitant prices ran three local hobby shops and one official GW store into the ground around when I was first getting into the hobby many years ago! On top of the expense and time of creating an army, there's the fact that, without a fun community to play with, I usually can't justify playing a tabletop wargame over a video game (blasphemy, anyone?). I can give or take the SBG as far as rules go...Now, I love WotR, but I never had enough LotR models to actually play a decent sized battle. I'm trying to get into the gaming aspect of the hobby with my brother, but my theme of choice is now history |

Here we go again... For those with no luck on Ebay or in the national lottery, this is the tenth death of all chances of GW-gaming . |

theavenger001 wrote: Exactly. Every price rise people say 'lets all stop buying and make them smartten up'. That's not going to work. And, if you love the game, you wouldn't really want to see gw go out of business....so....yeah. I love the game, but hate the damn company. So I'm buying almost exclusively from 3rd party retailers, 2nd hand sellers or ebay. I was quite happy around 5 years ago paying around £15-£18 for 24 models, and about £5 per single metal model on foot. Now I'm getting (old, which is fine 'cos theres not that many of the latest models that I like) metal models off ebay for less than £4. I think when single model LoTR blisters (i.e. on foot) hit £10; 12 figure plastic boxes become £15 (£1.20 each) that'll be it for me completely. I will not pay more ever increasing prices for ever decreasing quality (finecast, scale issues etc). And I know I have said this in the past etc, that I would quit GW. Well, really, I am actually in the process of quitting. I've spent less than £20 over the last year on LoTR direct from GW; and ~£20 for ~14 models off ebay and second hand sales. I havn't bought anything direct from GW for 40K in over a year (I spent £5 on a second hand drop pod). Years ago I was quite happily spending at least £50 a year on LoTR at GW. Nowadays if I still spent the same amount per year, I would likely get less than half the models. Contrast that to the Anglo Saxon army I bought last december, over 90 models for £60. And that was including 10 metals (which usually go for about £3.50 each from the range I bought them from). So, for me at least, GW doubling, tripling, quadrupling their prices over the decade that I've been in the hobby has actually decreased their profits from me, not increased them or even kept them even. |

Post subject: | Re: Price Increase Confirmed by Miniwargaming |
I agree with the above post! I also have not bought direct from Games Workshop (aside from paints) for what must be over 2 years now. The extraordinary thing is as a teenager I might spend £20-30 a month on GW stuff. Now that I am in employment and with other things to consider as well as not being so temperamental I just don't have pockets deep enough for what we now get. I would much rather go elsewhere and continue my LOTR collection through other ranges. I've probably spent £500+ already this year from suppliers such as Ebob, Crusader Miniatures as well as buying from Ebay. If GW prices were still competitive they would be raking it in from fans of their gaming systems but they are not and this is yet another kick in the shins to us lot... I was gutted to hear they have scrapped there old paints though, what will us old timers do! |

The worst part of it is that 12 WOMT cost me 17,5 (or 20 soon enough) euro's. A box of 48 1/72 scale plastics is 6,5 euro's in my local shop. That means that for 12 WOMT I could have had 144+ historics, which are sculpted and done just as nicely, though in a smaller scale. I mean, that would make anyone think twice. |

This sounds like time for me to seriously consider if I want to stay doing this hobby, GWS are pricing me out of the hobby! |
