During our yearly LotR Community event in Germany on the Kauzenburg we had a semi official visit by a Games Workshop employee. He was allowed to tell us, that we will se a new version of the Skirmish Rulebook in February.

He mentioned that there will be a new value for heroes which tells how much warriors the hero may command. Every warrior needs therefore a commander and the ratio between heroes and warriors is now not completely up to the player any more.

No information on WotR and the Hobbit guys, but good news for the skirmish version of LotR.

EPIC. Hopefully this is true. I hope it'll include ALL of the profiles. Maybe that's why they pulled the sourcebooks!

Sounds good, but I can't help being sceptical. Surely we would have heard some more about this if it's coming out so soon.

Did anyone hear about the new Vampire Counts release more than a week before it's supposed to come out?

Not until people got the January White Dwarf at the end of December, so if there is a release for LOTR in February, pictures would be in the February White Dwarf.

So we just have to wait a bit longer then.

Hopefully this will bring the game more attention, especially from GW.

Interesting, could be an effective way of further differentiating heroes. I guess that will put an end to my Rumil + 43 elf army :)

I do wonder what else has changed, and how much they broke changing it... :?

That flys in the face go GWs new policy o not releasing any information about a release until a week before the release.

A policy supposedly put in place by conditions in the Warner Bros. agreement for the hobbit in order to make sure no info about the movie is released before the studio wants.

Still, we'll see soon enough.

I wonder what this will do to the Grey Company list. They're most likely doing this because the fights in the Hobbit are smaller, so they're probably just trying to keep people from fielding 10,000 orcs to recreate the Battle of Five Armies. I wonder how this will change game mechanics.

Well if it works how we are speculating: army Construction, then that may effectively end horde armies with everything becoming like grey company. We will get smaller more elite armies. They could also be referring to a heroic move or shoot. Ex. Aragon can get everyone within six inches to " with me " while a captain may only get two.

Wonder what these potential rules changes would do to my hobbit army?

If it does indeed work the way everyone seems to think, then presumably horde armies would simply be more explicitly so. That is, Goblin captains, for instance, would have the capacity to command many more times the amount of troops than, say, a Captain of Rohan could.

From the sounds of it at least it'll just be something similar to the banner rules. You need one hero for each banner and x number of troops; a figure which would change depending on the hero in question.

</conjecture>
