Thought I'd convey some discussion I've seen elsewhere.

Quote:
I've been told it's confirmed by my local GW manager. The Hobbit will be getting its own new game system, different to LOTR. I'm expecting a smaller scale skirmish game, though it might have a larger aspect because of the battle of five armies. Take it as you will, but I'm confident there will be a new range.

Also...

Quote:
in other news the Perry twins are sculpting or at least over seeing the minis.

This is great news, the Perry twins are great sculptors and contributed so many amazing miniatures to the current LOTR range.

Very interesting. If this is true, I expect the current LotR and WotR systems will be dumped. I hope we'd still be able to use the models though.

I hope this isn't true, I do not want a 3rd £35 book, and nor do I want to find another company.

what a great birthday present looking in this thread proved [sarcasm]

Me too, I would hate it if the scale changed, i would attempt to sue GW for cruelty to customers.

If the scale changed I would take it personally and not buy/paint any of the range and ukfreddybear would be very busy lol

"The Hobbit has to be one of the biggest movies in production right now and it’s been announced that Games Workshop has been granted the license to build on its “The Lord of the Rings” games to bring battles in the Five Shires and beyond to life. "

"Games Workshop already produces a whole range of tabletop battle games for The Lord of the Rings movies, so it comes as no real surprise that Warner Brothers, the owners of the The Lord of Rings franchise, have agreed to extend the six year relationship with Games Workshop"

"Under the terms of the license, Games Workshop will develop and extend not only on The Lord of the Rings game but also introduce a new version based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth to co-coincide with The Hobbit movie. Details of how The Hobbit game will differ from the original The Lord of the Rings is as yet unknown and details will emerge closer to the time of the release."

"Games Workshop has been a valuable partner of ours for a number of years and we look forward to continuing and expanding this successful relationship," said Karen McTier, Executive Vice President, Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "Their products reflect the true spirit of 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise and, as anticipation builds for the release of 'The Hobbit,' the property's loyal fans will be excited for these richly inspired offerings."

"'The Lord of the Rings' is now firmly established as one of our core game systems, and the opportunity to expand it further with the upcoming film 'The Hobbit' is very exciting indeed, both for us and our hobbyists,"

hmmmm :) enjoy the good news mate's

what i dindt like was this................ ---> Details of how The Hobbit game will differ from the original The Lord of the Rings is as yet unknown and details will emerge closer to the time of the release."

more info...

"While Games Workshop has produced Hobbit figures in conjunction with its Lord of the Rings Battle Strategy Game, with the advent of The Hobbit movies and the new license it is likely that GW will create a similarly elaborate set of offerings for The Hobbit to rival what it has done for The Lord of the Rings."

They say that they will cast more minis for LOTR too, not only for the hobbit :-D

Where are you getting those quotes from? Some of them appear to be direct quotes from the original press release saying they had extended the liscense, but some of them aren't.

These rumours resonate loudly with me - I heard a similar rumour 4 months ago.

Remember guys, the existing LOTR licence is with New Line Cinema, while the Hobbit is being produced by MGM/Warner Bros. Two very different parties, and unlikely to want to group their merchandising/licencing in with their rival's products. And GW aren't well known for considering the needs and wants of veteran wargamers - my guess is that they will go for the quick $$$ and a new generation of customers.
