Whats that hammering noise i can hear? Oh yes its the death nail being hammered into GWs coffin. Dont get me wrong i love GW, i have 95% of all LOTR releases, paint Warhammer and some 40k, buy select Forge World items. BUT and its is a BIG BUT, i have now stopped buying anything from them, paints from "Model Colour" much better paint, i will paint all my back log, should take a few years and then look at other ranges from more "realistic" companies. I have never seen the Forums so ALIVE as they have been over the past weeks, i hope GW read them, but alas, they never learn. Defend them all you want, in the current climate of a down turn in high street spending, what company can put prices up by 21% ! |

It's disgusting. I'm vowing now that I won't ever pay full price for another GW miniature. The last LotR item I picked up at full price must've been around the Mordor release, and since then I've picked up the odd 40K piece for my Space Wolves. That's over now, it's discount bins and eBay for me from here on in... |

Like the models werent expensive enough allready... I think that this is a very, very dumb choice GW made, and I'm sure that they are going to lose a lot of buyers with action. I also think that there are a lot of people that play this who are still in school (like myself) and simply dont have enough money for it anymore |

Will US prices rise too, or is this just for the UK? |

I've seen quite a few price rises since I started playing LotR. Most of the time people seem to exaggerate how bad it actually is. This time, however, it does appear to be worth worrying about... |

And feel sorry for us in Australia who will now no longer be able to buy from overseas stores. I buy from Britain because the prices are HALF of what they are here. And it's not due to shipping, currency exchanges or anything, the prices down here are just really, really high. But now GW is not allowing stores over there to sell to us down here. =( I'm expecting a "black market" of eBay sellers in Britain, buying from their local stores then selling them to us down here for a profit. It would be worth it for us (still cheaper than the 200% we currently pay) and for them (as they could charge, say 150% of the cost to make themselves some money). What a stupid move to make in such a global economy. |

Yeah totally agree with you Sim. What makes them think they can bend us over like this???? I reckon if I had 10mins in a dark alley with GW hierarchy I think they'd change their prices to something reasonable |

This is insane - every economist is trumpeting the squeeze on disposable income in UK, Ireland, much of Europe and yet GW are making price increases of up to 26%? Quite a lot of the LotR range are going up by 21%. This will also impact webstores as the wholesale price goes up too. Other companies have seen prices creep up but then you get many more troops per box, for example Gripping Beast have 44 Saxons or Vikings per box for £20 (or deals where you buy multiple boxes at a discount and get 1 special metal champion gtype figure). Warlord make fantastic Romans, but also Celts, Germans, Britons and Dacians who could be used or adapted for various Middle-earth societies that were less directly prominent in the stories. £20 gets you 30 per box, typically. Again, Warlord off discount deals that range all the way up to HUGE armies (we're talking about HUNDREDS of figures). And just in case anyone has any doubts about the quality of these and other companies work, take a good look at their websites - their products are excellent. |

I shall respond with what seems to have become my standard first thought: quoth theOneRider: What, again? It's kind of funny, actually. I just finished reading The Prince a few days ago, & the principles dear old Niccolo lays out seem like a better way to preserve a company than a monarchy. According to Machiavelli's theories, GW can expect a "revolution" before very long where their "subjects" replace them with someone who demonstrates more concern and regard for the average customer. Kinda funny when you think about how GW used to be the company that went above and beyond to make sure that you were happy with every purchase. PowerofWill wrote: Will US prices rise too, or is this just for the UK? Most likely we (and Australia) will see prices rise even more than in the UK. GW seems to do that every time they have a price hike. |

Im slightly confused. Are they replacing plastic models with resin as well? Because if they are only replacing metal models, and the plastics remain the same, why are the plastics effected by the price rise? |

^You want to know what's even more confusing? Resin is generally cheaper than metal as a material, so it is said. So what does that tell you? |

Well this is officially too expensive for me. I've kinda stopped this hobby for now anyway. Good thing I have a load of unpainted/unconverted models incase I want to get back into it. |

cereal_theif wrote: Resin is cheaper BUT requires new molds, new quality assurance precedure, new product cleanings It's not resin. It's not cheaper, it just wont increase in price as much as the metal does. They're also changing the molds a little, so that they can spin more models at once and keep up with demand. The internet is on fire with so many angry gamers, a lot of what is going around is actually wrong. There's a generic annual price rise almost every year, this isn't GW being greedy, this is them trying to cover the costs of oil, fuel, transport, materials etc etc all going up in the last year. Also they're a business, with shareholders, to keep the shareholders happy they have to keep making a profit. |
