Bah... if this is true... Quote: Hi Bart
Many thanks for your email enquiry. All of the products you have list below are indeed direct only models. These products are not available on advance order, they will appear on the website on the day of release. I hope this information helps. Regards ******** Customer Services ________________________________________ From: Bart Van Kerckhove [mailto:********************] Sent: 02 April 2009 15:09 To: UK Web Orders Subject: New War of the Ring models Hi, I have a question about some of the new War of the Ring models in advanced order. Are the following blisters direct-only by any chance? - Sons of Eorl - The Grey Company - Halbarad - Haradrim Hasharin - Amdur, Lord of Blades - Mordor Uruk Hai 2 - Minas Tirith Citadel Guard 2 - Druzhag, the Beastcaller - Dwarf Shieldbearer - Elven Stormcaller blablabla.... Can anyone who's going to the release-day party tomorow in his local store ask for confirmation about this? Strange though that they say not in advanced order and will only appear on their site tomorow... I think GW is failingon internal communication these days... |

A cunning ploy to prevent us from using discount stores for these minis... |

damn - thats annoying if they are direct only. I know maelstrom have avaiable to pre order: Gandalf (MT) Witch King (MT) AoTD standard bearer Theoden (Pelennor) Look here: http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.p ... re=min-lor So the rest is GW direct only (Assuming what has been said is accurate) |

Well, I contacted several seller before going to GW asking if they had any idea when they would come on pre-order at them, but none ever replied, so I had to try GW themself... Strange though they don't mention that anywhere... It frustrated me cause I wanted to pre-order them wherever I could, now to figure out it's only at GW-direct... Hope someone can confirm (or the opposite) this after going to his local shop today... then I know what to do... |

Ok, some of those that are re-issues such as the Mordor Uruks, CG, Hasharin, etc are fair enough. But Amdur? The Stormcaller? Those are NEW models that should be available in-store for those of us who don't have credit cards to order them from the online store! |

As far as I know, all three that I mentioned are still on the pegs in store. I also didn't know you could get the store to order for you. I tried doing a bitz order a while back, not long after the announcement that the LotR bitz were being discontinued, and was told they couldn't do that in-store. Same deal with the WHFB Empire Captain with Bloody Sword. |

Direct-Only doesn't bother me. My local store doesn't keep a real good stock of LotR stuff...mostly just the newest releases. But if I want something, all I have to do is fill out an order form and they'll order it in their next batch and you don't have to pay for shipping. Honestly, it works out better for me, because it cuts down on impulse purchases. |

When I went to GW on Thursday (got my WotR book that day), my pre-order for the Sons of Eorl had not arrived yet. They said that they didn't get any blisters in stock for the release day and speculated that they must be direct only then. |

Another step in the wrong direction for the GW stores. |

Absolutely. And in a year's time when no one is going because they can order all their stuff online or get it cheaper elsewhere, GW is going to wonder what they did wrong. I just feel bad for all those poor souls I think will be out of work in the near future. |

this is a bad move on GWs part for sure, I havent bought anything off their site in a year, I hate paying for shipping, and it takes a week to arrive....when I could just as easily go to the local store and get it right then and there, I might have to convert my own stormcaller then... |

What really has me shaking my head is that the GW site doesn't even say those particular models are Direct Only and some GW sores themselves don't have a clue what's going on. Or didn't at first. We should have these models in our hands right now rather than still figuring out how to get them three days after their release. Talk about dropping the ball. |

It's actually pretty clever, because now, you can't just go and get them cheaper online. GW is forcing you to pay them full whack for the models, rather than only getting the, whatever it is, 60% RRP from a distributer, they are getting the full 100% from the customer. And for everyone that says they aren't buying the models because they hate GW etc etc ad infinitum, they will still have plenty of orders. In a years time, it might still be the case that they are direct only, so, no, you wouldn't be going elsewhere to get it. |

In fairness, at the end of the day. They are a company, they want to make as much money as possible and as said, they can get more my selling stuff themselves rather than through other sellers. |

I do agree there Corsair. Why not make those models exclusive to GW only stores then? They get the protection and we get the models right away without all the online buying and shipping hassles. |

Hi, I'm new to the hobby, but can't you order through the GW site and request the models are delivered to your local store? That way at least you save on postage etc. Can't comment on getting through independent stores yet though. Haven't tried that route for the more unusual models yet. I kind of like being in store for the painting help etc and would feel a bit guilty going in for that with purchases from elsewhere... |
