no one els thinks it insane that rangers are gonna have S3bows, like Elves?

 !!! I don't think that's a good rule, it makes the rangers way to powerful. Your getting somone who can shoot like an elf for only 8 points!

it will cost an extra point, but even so..
what advantage have Woodies left at this rate?

Higher Courage, higher Fight value, and the Woodland Creature special rule. For the same points cost as rangers, I think the Wood Elves have a pretty sweet deal myself

The longbows for rangers sounds great to me.

Cheers,
Wolfy

I see... it seems that releasing heroes that allow you to upgrade your troops is going to be something we can expect more of in the future. No doubt this is to drive sales of those figures though.

A S3 bow is quite powerful, and I'm not sure I like the idea of rangers getting them. I have enough difficulty defeating elf armies with them, but a gondor army could be impossible.

I'm not sure what is so difficult to defeat really. Yes, a Strength 3 bow is quite the step above Strength 2, but think about this for a second: We are getting new models of Morgul Knights, which are cheaper and easier than ever to field. A Strength 3 bow still requires a 6 to wound one of these lads, just like a Strength 2 one, and since they're cavalry, they'll easily swarm over any rangers. And if Morgul Knights aren't your thing, use Haradrim, Easterlings, Isengard Uruk-hai, etc. All of them are unfazed by S2 to S3...you still need the same roll to wound them regardless.

Cheers,
Wolfy

Blackroot Vale archers. Hmm. I've always liked the fiefs but not the way GW have represented them. These new plastic Swan Knights are looking good so far (I will wait to see them in the flesh before passing final judgement) and if the Blackroot Vale chaps are of the same quality and in plastic then I'll be getting them by the bucket load.

Well, I don't know if we'll even see Blackroot Vale archers, just a command set to go with your specially painted Rangers of Middle-earth. The "trick" seems to be that you buy a "legendary" command company like Grimbold's helmingas, and you use the command company with the bog standard plastics.

Clever little trick that :)

Looking over the WotR rulebook, I began wondering if they will in fact release models for Blackroot Vale Archers, since they are described as wearing heavy armour, not just armour like their ranger friends wear. They may be like the Akabran Guard, where they had alternate paint schemes in the rulebook, but then released the monstrosities we have as models as Direct Only figures.

So what is the deal with GW releasing Duinhir and his Blackroot Vale command unit without archers to command? It seems like the same thing they did with Grimbold and his boys. :(

Don't forget Mauhur and his Marauder's either. It sounds like they'll be getting the same treatment.

The full list is half-way down Page 7. Morgul Knights, Swan Knights, Duinhir (and a command set), Mauhur (and a command set), a new Nazgul, a new Faramir model, new ruins and the Battlehosts set. I think.

Works for me. They would surely charge more for a specialty unit like Blackroot.
Remember when they brought out Dunedain rangers? They wanted more for those minis than for Faramir's Rangers.

I forgot to mention: I really like that plastic Morgul Knight helmet better than the ones on the metals. 8)

Don't quote me on all that just yet - I was just passing along the list posted on TLA that most people are going with :)

Well, someone on Warseer has claimed that they've seen the Battlehosts book and kindly gave a run-down of the new miniatures. Most of this we already know, but there are a few extra things as well. Figured I'd post it here. :)

BramGaunt wrote:
Well, I browsed the new book a little, and there are a fwe things I spotted (I am not really into the LorT miniatures, so I might have missed some things)

New Morgul Knights and Knights of Dol Amroth: Most of you probably saw these already.

New Faramir: In a blue Coat and braided Horse, trimmed with gold

Uruk-Hai: New Uruk Hai Command: There was a new Standard bearer, Captain and a Drummer for Urik-Hai, as well as a new named Charakter, whose name I don't remember.

The Dwimmerlaik (Eowyn calls the Witch King a "Dwimmerlaik"): He looks a lot like a normal Wraith, holding his sword above his head. His coat is grey-ish.

Morannon Orks Drummer and new command: If I looked correctly they get a full new command as well.

Osgiliath Terrain: Well, most of you saw the movie, and that's excactly what you may expect: Ruins, fine in detail, with stairs, broken pillars, statues of old kings and lots more I probably missed out.: It looks really wonderful. I'm goint to use it for Warhammer 40k though, but it will work perfectly fine with both War of the Ring and the "normal" Lord of the Rings System

I didn't pay that much attention to the good guys, though...

The only thing that we've not heard of is the possible new Morannon Orc Drummer and Command set. This one doesn't really make much sense to me, as they just had a new Command Set released last year, plus a blister of Captains the year before. I'm not sure how reliable he is, but most of what he posted has already been mentioned before, so this seems to give them even more validity now. The one thing that doesn't make too much sense really is the Morannon's, but Ive seen stranger things done by GW!

Well, I'll be at the Chicago Bunker Wednsday, Thursday and probably Saturday so I'll keep an eye out for that black box.

Maybe the morannon command is just a drummer and taskmaster like the mordor orc blister, this makes a lot more sense than a whole new command set, now if we only had one for the mordor uruks.

I'm really looking forward to the terrain kit. I've built my own natural stuff, and plan to build my own walls and towers, but it will be nice to have something to use in the meantime.
